Music has always been part of my daily rhythm.
Music on the way to work.
Music on the way home.
Music in the background while life happens.
And I listen to just about everything, depending on the mood.
Some people use music to change their mood.
I’ve always used music to amplify it.
If I’m happy, I play happy music.
If I’m feeling reflective, I lean into something slower.
If I’m fired up, the volume goes up with it.
Music has always been a way to feel more of whatever the moment already holds.
How about you?
Do you listen to music to change how you feel… or to dive deeper into the feeling you’re already in?
Back in high school and college, music wasn’t just something I listened to.
It was something I played.
There’s a photo above from those days. Me behind a set of old-school turntables and a mixer, working a party and trying to keep the floor moving.
I spent years DJ’ing dances, house parties, teen clubs, bars, and even a couple of larger clubs in downtown Houston.
Those nights had a soundtrack.
Sometimes it was New Wave.
Depeche Mode.
New Order.
Erasure.
Other nights it leaned Hip Hop.
Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock.
Heavy D & the Boyz.
Not usually both at the same time. Different crowds, different nights, different energy.
But the goal was always the same.
Keep the room moving.

Inspired by those nights behind the turntables when the right song at the right moment could change the entire room.
Those DJ years taught me something about music.
It connects people.
Different backgrounds.
Different moods.
Different stories.
But when the right song hits, everyone feels it.
Even now, music is still part of the routine.
Every day.
Every drive.
Every moment in between.
So I’m curious…
How do you listen to music?
